Frankfurt Airport to Reinstate Carry-On Liquid Restrictions Starting September 2024

Starting September 1, 2024, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) will reinstate limits on the amount of liquids allowed in carry-on luggage due to a revision in European regulations. Passengers will be restricted to carrying liquids in containers of no more than 100 milliliters, which must be stored in a re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one liter.

This renewed restriction stems from changes in European law that also impact the newly installed CT scanners at Frankfurt Airport.

Despite the reimposed liquid limits, checkpoints equipped with CT technology at FRA will still offer some convenience to passengers. Travelers will not need to remove electronic devices or the permitted quantities of liquids, aerosols, and gels from their carry-on bags during security screening.

To ensure a smooth and stress-free travel experience, passengers are encouraged to prepare ahead of time by verifying that their luggage meets their airline’s size and weight requirements. It’s advisable to carry only essential items, ideally packed within a single piece of carry-on luggage per person.

Travelers can reserve a security check time slot using the complimentary online service, FRA SmartWay, to expedite the screening process.
